Our Programs

Girls Write Nashville Guild

eligibility: 5th-12th grade; Davidson co. resident, attend a Title I school.

prerequisite: none!

Satellite Guilds are the entrance point to Girls Write Nashville programming. Young writers across Davidson County participate in a weekly writers’ guild facilitated by a local professional female artist. In this community-oriented environment, participants develop the tools to express themselves through song, share their work with supportive peers, learn the basics of recording, and showcase their songs to the community.

Participants can also learn the basics of recording, learning to engineer sessions for their peers, and getting to record their own songs using free cloud-based recording software. This is made accessible for all students with all kinds of devices.

We have free guilds available based on grade level and ELL support needs.

Girls Write Nashville and Loudmouth Community Music are unequivocally open to all trans youth.

All-City Artists Guild

eligibility: 9th grade and up; Davidson co. resident

prerequisite: at least one year in a satellite guild

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we are restructuring this program to better fit our community’s needs. We look forward to resuming this program structure when it is safe to do so.

Our All-City Artists Guild is our most advanced program open to returning GWN participants who are in 9th-12th grade. This exciting mentorship program pairs high school girls with local female professional songwriter mentors. The pairs work together bi-weekly from January - June. Once a month, youth writers attend the All-City Writers’ Guild where they share their songs with each other, offer feedback, and participate in an art scene of their own creation. The season culminates in a recording session at a professional local studio in collaboration with a team of professional studio musician women where each participant gets to record and produce one of her songs. Participants also perform their songs at a public album release show.

The All-City Artists Guild is for Davidson County residents in 9th-12th grade. Admittance into the All-City Recording Guild is by invite/inquiry only to participants who have already completed at least one year in a Satellite Guild.

Youth Voice Column in The Contributor

The Contributor is an award-winning nonprofit bi-weekly social justice newspaper sold with dignity by our neighbors climbing out of homelessness. In November 2020, Girls Write Nashville partnered with The Contributor to amplify local youth voices by facilitating a student-created bi-lingual youth voice column. This column is open to girls, boys, and gender-nonconforming youth in middle and high school in Davidson County. It is also bi-lingual and students are welcome to write in Spanish and/or English. Thanks to a generous THRIVE grant from Metro Arts Nashville, this project will continue through May 2021.

Interested in sponsoring or writing for the column? Email Jen@GirlsWriteNashville.com
